THE FURNESS RAILWAY TRUST

Registered Charity 1005211

The main backer for this restoration scheme, which allowed this Victorian coach body to be restored to full working order, is the Heritage Lottery Fund.

This is the HLF's second grant to the Furness Railway Trust, worth £49,200. (The HLF was also the lead fund provider for the restoration of Furness Railway Number 20 with a grant of £97,000.) Without the support of the HLF, this project quite simply could not go ahead.

The Trust was also awarded additional grants from the following, for which we are also grateful:

Cumbria County Council £250.

South Lakeland District Council £150.

Cumbrian Railways Association £463.

The scheme was project managed using volunteer labour by Trust members - this has included liaising with the Appleby Heritage Centre, but also to undertake the necessary paperwork to satisfy the regulatory authorities. Trust volunteers have also provided volunteer labour painting the vehicle and undertaking certain skilled tasks such as making luggage rack netting. Together the volunteer input accounts for a further £5,550. On top of this, the Furness Railway Trust made a financial contribution towards the cost of the restoration of almost £3000.
