The Furness Railway Trust has run two appeals in connection with the restoration of our Great Western Railway 0-6-2T 5643.
The appeal to fund the boiler washout plugs - which cost £740 - has now been closed, after hitting the target. The Trust is very grateful to everyone who dipped into their pockets to help us reach this figure. The Trust's finances were reserved for the costly repairs to the 56xx's boiler, so without these plugs, the locomotive would not have a chance to steam.
This achievement is on top of the £2,200 raised to buy the boiler tubes. There are 220 such tubes in the boiler and sponsors were able to purchase "their" tube at the cost price of £10. The sum was raised in less than nine months.
